Catering Team At NUFC Scoop Top Award

NUFC’s status as the world’s first “carbon positive” football club has been recognised at a national award ceremony.

The team from Sodexo Prestige, which runs the catering and banqueting at St James’ Park, took gold in the Green Hospitality category at the Stadium Experience Football Hospitality Awards last night (May 23).

Sodexo has introduced a range of energy efficiency measures at the club, from installing PIR (passive infrared) lighting to sourcing ingredients and produce locally to minimise air miles.

A review of the heating system and monitoring energy usage at NUFC resulted in not only a massive reduction in power usage but also resulted in financial savings of more than £300,000.

NUFC beat off competition from around the UK to take the prestigious honour at

the annual awards, which were held at Reading’s Madejski Stadium, and which were set up to “recognise and reward” the highest standards in the industry.

The club’s chefs took the bronze award in the Team of Chefs category while duty manager 65-year-old Michael Moran was also awarded bronze in the Special Achievement category for his years of dedication.

“This was a fantastic night for all of the team at St James’ Park,” said Frankie Angus, General Manager for Sodexo Prestige at NUFC.

“To be recognised in this way in competition with your peers is a real testimony to the hard work and commitment of everyone at the club.”
