Different Kind of Horsepower

The fastest and most demanding race on earth takes to the skies above Ascot on the 16th – 17th August this year, as the Red Bull Air Race comes to town.

Since it was officially launched nine years ago, the Red Bull Air Race World Championship has become globally renowned as the fastest and most exhilarating motorsport on the planet. It is a visual spectacle unlike any other. A combination of high speed, low altitude and extreme manoeuvrability make it only accessible to the world's most exceptional pilots.

British Ace and current world Champion, Paul Bonhomme, will be taking part in this year’s competition and will be fighting to retain his title for the third time. Speaking of his opportunity to race at such a prestigious venue, Bonhomme said: “For 300 years there has been racing at Ascot; what a stunning place to race aeroplanes. The history of Ascot will probably never be beaten in the history of the air race. Awesome; no pressure!"

The Programme

The two day event is full of exciting races. Qualifying day will take place on Saturday 16th August and will include 24 exciting races showcasing the skills of elite pilots looking to secure the Challengers’ Cup and qualify for a starting position at Sunday’s finale. Sunday 17th August will include three rounds of racing with the field being whittled down from the top 12 to the final 4.
